Religion based self-hatred

Stories of parents rejecting children of alternate sexualities due to their religion are not uncommon. I find them deeply troubling.

Consider parents who nurtured and taught their children from the point of conception onwards. Children birthed of their own body; for all purposes, a part of themselves. No one on the planet, past, present or future, knows these children the way their parents do. And yet when their religious leaders denounce one aspect of the nature of their children, such parents discard these children as debris. Religious teaching is so deeply entrenched in the psyche of these parents that it overwhelms their direct personal experience, knowledge and understanding of their own children. Such people have been brainwashed to only accept/trust information from their religious leaders. They are fully dependent on the judgement/opinions of their religious leader because all other sources of information, internal (including themselves, their eyes, ears, nose, tongue and skin) and external (including media and science), are regarded with great suspicion.

What they don’t realize is that to reject their children is to reject themselves. It is an act of self hatred. Religion teaches these parents to distrust themselves and self-hate. How is that worthy of faith?
